Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Programme and Change Lead

The starting salary for this role is £53,018 per annum and is based on a 36 working hour week.

Do you relish a challenge? Are you passionate about promoting equality, valuing diversity and creating an inclusive culture? Are you tenacious, committed to the cause and able to inspire others? If so then we want to hear from you!

At Surrey, we are undertaking significant fast-paced improvement across the council to deliver our vision to help create better lives, a better place and a county where no-one is left behind. Tim Oliver (Leader) and Joanna Killian (Chief Executive) have emphasised their commitment to transforming the council’s culture into one that is fairer, more compassionate and inclusive. We have just agreed a new equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) action plan that will help us achieve this vision and drastically improve outcomes within the organisation, and in our work to tackle inequality across Surrey. The action plan is centred on five key areas:

  • Employee experience
  • Leadership
  • Knowing and engaging our communities
  • Communication and engagement
  • Delivering inclusive services

We are looking for an exceptional EDI Programme and Change Lead, who can stretch our thinking and drive forward a radical approach to ensure we are an organisation that genuinely values difference. You will be responsible for programme managing delivery of our EDI action plan, while working creatively and innovatively to drive the change needed to achieve our ambitions. The role will build on work to date, bring new thinking into the council and help us to turn our focus outwards to make sure the services we deliver are inclusive and designed to tackle the inequalities experienced by communities across the county.

This role will be cross cutting, working closely with our Corporate Leadership Team EDI sponsor, Katie Stewart, and other senior officers and Members across the council to influence change. To be successful you must be passionate about EDI, highly collaborative and able to build relationships with local, regional and national partners to champion our agenda.

Our values are important to us and as a senior team member you will understand the importance of and be comfortable in leading by example when it comes to displaying these through your work and actions.

To apply and be considered for this position your application will clearly evidence:

  • A strong commitment to EDI
  • Expert knowledge of EDI policy, trends, best practice and legislation, including specific duties for local authorities
  • Experience of leading change and practical application of programme management principles
  • Proven ability to inspire, motivate and influence others
  • Excellent senior stakeholder and relationship management skills

If you're passionate, enthusiastic and feel you want to be part of this journey, then please apply by uploading your CV and personal statement (no longer than two pages of A4 please) outlining your suitability for this role.
