Senior Sustainable Travel & Road Safety Officer

Hours: 37 hours per week

Contract: Fixed term for 12 months

An exciting new opportunity delivering sustainable travel projects has become available within North Somerset within the West of England. Working within the Sustainable Travel & Road Safety Team you will deliver schemes, act as client, lead on community consultation, work with stakeholders and manage projects to time and budget. Work will initially focus on the roll out and launch of 20mph limits and zones and other emerging area wide interventions such as ‘liveable neighbourhoods’. The role will initially be based working from home, but as government restrictions ease a mixture of home and office working is expected.

You will have an understanding of project areas such as walking and cycling route development, electric vehicle charging provision, policy writing, smarter choices campaigns, education, training and publicity, and engagement work with schools, businesses and communities.

You will have 5 years work experience and a background in project management, transport planning, road safety and/ or policy or bid writing. A degree in a relevant discipline such as geography, environmental studies, sustainability, planning, business, engineering or a subject directly transferable will be essential. A further post-graduate qualification is desirable and membership of a relevant organisation such as RTPI or IHT.

The post holder will collaborate with colleagues across the West of England authorities and share best practice with other national partnership organisations. The position comes with a competitive salary, local authority pension scheme, cycle to work scheme and flexible working.
