Based in Newbury, West Berkshire Council is responsible for local waste services, roads, social care, education, and much more. With an average of over 40,000 users a week our website is our main channel for communication with our residents and local businesses, and through digital transformation we’re using it increasingly for service delivery too.
We’re looking for a talented and versatile Digital Service Officer to help deliver a project to review and renew our website content, for a fixed term of one year. As part of the Digital Services team you’ll work with staff across the council, from those on the front-line to senior management, creating user focused, accessible online content.
You’ll have an excellent standard of English, great copywriting skills and knowledge of best practice in digital content design standards, taking complex ideas from subject experts and explaining them to the public simply and clearly.
We’ll also be updating the structure of our website, so an excellent understanding of online customer journeys and experience of applying that knowledge using a content management system is essential.
You’ll understand the benefits of using website analytics, but also that user testing and responding to feedback plays an equally important role in meeting user needs for creating and maintaining online content and services.
We’ll encourage you to work in the open through our blog and collaborate, seek guidance and offer advice to peers, both online by using social and enterprise media tools, and offline by attending events, conferences and camps, where appropriate.
West Berkshire Council offers excellent employment benefits such as flexible working, and at present the majority of your time will be spent working from home. Other benefits include local government pension scheme, family friendly policies, and much more. You will also be entitled to a generous annual leave entitlement of 27 days per annum.
If you’d like to discuss this opportunity further please contact Phil Rumens, Digital Services Manager, by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, calling 01635 519687, or @PhilRumens on Twitter.
