Covid Business Compliance Officer x 3

Exceptional times require exceptional people.

Do you want to protect the district and help save lives? Do you want to make a difference to our community? Do you want to help reduce Covid-19 transmission? If so, then we have some great opportunities to join us in our fight against Covid-19.

We are looking for three experienced Business Compliance officers to play a key role in supporting the work of our Public Protection team to contain the spread of Covid-19.

You will conduct routine Covid compliance audits and improvement interventions in business premises, reviewing risk assessments and control measures as well as responding to complaints and providing advice and support to businesses on Covid safety.

You will also work directly with businesses, promoting the latest guidance and Covid secure measures and sharing best practice. You may also be asked to support health promotion campaigns across the community.

Lone working will be regularly required, including evidence gathering, challenging unacceptable behaviours and taking regulatory enforcement where necessary.

The posts are temporary for 12 months. There is one part time position available and two full time.

The hours of work are 37 hours per week for full time and 18.5 hours part time, the working days will be set in agreement with the Commercial Protection Manager.

Staff cover is required each working day during office hours, and availability for ad-hoc operational requirements necessitating occasional work in the early morning, evening and at weekends or on Bank Holidays.

The post is based at Morecambe Town Hall, but will also require extensive travel around the District, therefore a full current UK driving license is essential.

The Council currently operates an excellent Flexible Working Hours Scheme which applies to this post. Subject to the needs of this business, this may allow employees to work between the hours of 6:00am-10:30pm.

This role is public facing. Therefore, the ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice and enforcement in accurate spoken and written English, handle difficult and challenging behaviours tactfully and assertively, is essential.

Lifting of loads up to 15kg may be required although this is infrequent.

For internal applicants, this role can be a secondment opportunity. The secondment of an employee from another Service can only take place with the agreement of the Manager of the Service the applicant is contracted to.

Lancaster City Council has unanimously declared a climate emergency and will therefore work towards reducing carbon emissions to net-zero by 2030. As part of this role, you will be expected to participate and work towards reducing carbon emissions.

We are a Forces Friendly employer, and an Armed Forces Covenant committed organisation. We welcome applications from defence reserves and other members of our armed forces community.

Excellent benefits include: A Local Government Pension Scheme (the Council makes a 15.5% contribution). Discounted gym membership and discount on days out, activities and retail.

If you would like an informal discussion to find out more about the post please call Steve Sylvester, on 01524 582717.

Interview dates: 20th to 27th May 2021
