Young Carers Volunteers

Here at West Berkshire Council, we are looking to add to our skilled team of Young Carers Volunteers, Mentors and Drivers.

We are looking for people who are patient, caring, and reliable, who also share our four core values of Respect, Integrity, Ambition and Responsibility.

These values are central to everything we do and the delivery of our service. If this sounds like you, we want to hear from you.

We are looking for:

Young Carers Volunteers:

Young Carers Volunteers are required to support the running of activities, the weekly youth clubs run on a Monday evening in Thatcham and Wednesday and Thursday evenings in Greenham. Support is also required during the School holiday with different activities which can take place across West Berkshire, activity dependent.

Young Carers Mentors:

Young Carers Mentors are required to offer befriending on a 1:1 basis. Mentors are matched to young carers dependent on interests and hobbies and you would meet with your matched young carer to provide time away from their caring responsibilities, to provide advice and support and a listening ear.

Young Carers Volunteer Drivers:

Volunteer drivers are required to take children and young people to their young carers’ activities/sessions. By giving a little of your time, you can help young people who look after their relatives access activities, as well as practical and emotional support.

Whilst these roles are voluntary roles, out of pocket expenses such as light refreshments during mentoring time will be reimbursed.

Mileage is paid at a rate of 30.8 pence per mile.

If you would like to be considered for any of these roles, please email a copy of your CV to FAO Young Carers, confirming which role you’d like to be considered for.

You will be asked to complete an application form if you are considered a suitable applicant for the role.

All successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks along with other relevant employment checks.

These role have been identified as public facing in accordance with Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2017; the requirement to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence in English applies.
