The Repairs and Maintenance Department has the responsibility for carrying out responsive and planned maintenance works, and void management works to Lancaster City Council’s housing and non-housing stock. In order to improve service levels, meet performance targets and increase the working base, the section is recruiting for two skilled Joiners.
The successful candidates will need to be flexible, as they will be reallocated work depending on the volume of work within each work stream. The post holders will be multi-skilled to ensure we can offer the best service for our clients and complete a right first-time appointment.
They must be able to demonstrate good working skills and techniques with an ability to work on their own initiative with minimum supervision. They will ensure their work continues to meet the current high levels of customer satisfaction. With an understanding and experience of working with the Health and Safety at Work Act, they will ensure safe-working practices are applied.
The post holder must have an NVQ level 3 in Carpentry and Joinery or equivalent certificate. A full current UK Driving Licence is also essential for this post, however reasonable adjustments can be made for those who are unable to drive due to disability. The post holder will be required to work a transient role around the district, as they will have to travel between locations and travel within the Council’s designated area.
The post is permanent, and the working hours are 37 hours per week (Monday to Thursday, 8.00am to 4.30pm, and Friday, 8.00am to 3.30pm), however you are required for operational purposes to work 39 hours per week; as this is in excess of the standard 37-hour week, you will accrue 1 days leave for every 20 days worked.
