Communications and Marketing Officer (Covid Lead)

Lancaster City Council is investing in the future and continuing to develop an environment to support community and business prosperity. We want to build on our strengths to grow Lancaster district’s reputation as a great business location, but also as an amazing place to live, work and play.

We are looking for a talented communications professional to play a key role in supporting the work of our Public Protection team to contain the spread of Covid-19.

You will create effective campaigns targeted at audiences including businesses, local residents and visitors to the Lancaster district.

You will also work directly with businesses, promoting latest guidance, Covid secure measures and share best practice.

The ideal candidate will have strong digital communication skills, be confident in copywriting and experienced in using a wide range of different media to create engaging content.

An eye for a good story, along with a grasp of print, broadcast, digital and social media, is also a must.

You are:

- an experienced communications professional with an excellent grasp of digital and social media
- a team player, supported by a great team

- able to produce content for a wide range of channels

- customer focused. Our key audiences are staff and residents.

- able to build strong relationships with our internal clients and partners

- creative – you’ll work with graphic designers to produce print, digital, social and video content.

- someone who puts the Council’s reputation first.

This post is based at Lancaster Town Hall, but you will initially be required to work from home as Government guidance dictates, combined with attending office meetings as and when required across the Lancaster district.

This is a temporary post for 12 months. 37 hours per week, working Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of this work some out of hours and weekend working may be required based on operational demands and stages of the pandemic. You may be required from time to time to attend meetings or cover events that fall outside the normal hours of work and may involve travel in and outside the Lancaster district.

The Council currently operates an excellent Flexible Working Hours Scheme which applies to this post. Subject to the needs of this business, this may allow employees to work between the hours of 6:00am-10:30pm.

Lancaster City Council declared a climate emergency and will therefore work towards reducing carbon emissions to net-zero by 2030. As part of this role, you will be expected to participate and work towards reducing carbon emissions. while supporting businesses and organisations across the district to reach the same goal.
