Tackling Domestic Abuse is a high priority for the Safer Greenwich Partnership, particularly in the current COVID 19 pandemic and the lockdown situation.

The Safer Communities Team are looking for two motivated, enthusiastic people who want to make difference and help tackle domestic abuse. We are looking to recruit to an exciting new role (2 posts) which is at the heart of an initiative new Domestic Abuse (DA) Perpetrator Project, which ensures proactive intervention and engagement of DA perpetrators and reduce the risk to DA victims.

The new roles will be reaching out directly to Domestic Abuse perpetrators who are referred to the Domestic Abuse Perpetrators Group. They will be able to compliment the work of the Independent Domestic Violence Advocates (IDVAs) who are supporting victims, by holding a focus on work with the perpetrators while support is provided to victims.

By engaging with the perpetrator, the post will be able to identify what is going wrong for them, be it alcohol or drug dependencies, mental health, housing or past issues and support them into services. They will be able to offer offenders the support they need to address issues that may be drivers to their abusive behaviour.

The role will work closely with DA Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) partners and support services. The post will be in a position to monitor the perpetrators behaviour and help to reduce the risk to their partner or family members by ensuring any further offending is not overlooked. There will be close links with the police and probation to ensure they do not continue to abuse or breach any orders that may be in place.

It is proposed that these workers will each work with a rolling 12 cases, with a target of 40 over the period of one year. Due to the current COVID situation much of the work may be from home and will be virtual, although some outreach and face to face will be required depending on need. All mobile equipment, laptops, phones and PPE will be supplied.

The post will be managed by the Senior Community Safety Specialist for Violence Against Women and Girls and Modern Slavery.
