Pensions Officer

We have an exciting opportunity for a Pension Officer who will be responsible in providing a comprehensive pensions administrative service across Local Government (LGPS) Teachers and NHS pension schemes,

The role will be responsible for processing joiners, leavers and in-service pension changes for individuals in relation to the different schemes, carry out all relevant year-end pension returns, provide individual pension estimates, as required, and process in-service and out of service retirement applications in accordance with scheme rules.

You will provide interpretation of pension administration advice and guidance on the operation and implementation of external regulations and statutory/legislation requirements to a range of stakeholders including managers, Head Teachers, school based and Council employees.

The post holder will need to show enthusiasm, have good communication skills to various audiences and be able to manage/prioritise their own workload, whilst working as a team member to ensure that cover is provided at all times.

Skills and Experience

  • Good keyboard skills and computer literacy. Must have the ability to input data via PC and have an extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook 
  • Experience of working as part of a team and delivering an effective and efficient administration service.
  • Excellent attention to detail and good problem-solving skills, with the ability to unpick complex pay/pension queries or potential errors
  • To be able to work accurately and effectively with the ability to deal with considerable levels of work-related pressure for example from deadlines, interruptions or conflicting demands
  • Ability to use written and oral communication skills to present varied information in an understandable way to a range of audiences
  • Knowledge of the relevant legislation and statutory requirements of the pension function. Candidates who have background in payroll & pensions would be highly advantageous.
