The role

We are looking for a gravedigger to join our Cemetery Team.  You will be involved in the digging, preparation and maintenance of graves and cemetery grounds including grass cutting

The main duties of a gravedigger include

  • Excavate and backfill graves using appropriate plant or by hand as required
  • Prepare and dress the grave ready for burial
  • Assist at grave side as necessary.
  • Carry out general grounds and horticultural maintenance in both Gravesend and Northfleet Cemeteries

It is essential that you have a full clean current driving licence, an ability and willingness to dig graves by hand, to work under pressure to tight deadlines with basic literacy and numeracy skills.  You should have general manual labour experience, be a good team worker and have a willingness to work in all weather conditions

Previous experience of grave digging, use of digging machinery (including diggers or dumpers) and horticultural machinery such as mowers/strimmers is desirable
