About the role

We're seeking a content designer to join a project to redesign the council's intranet, working on content and transactions. The vision is for a single source of truth, that enables staff to complete their top tasks quickly and efficiently. You will have a strong focus on designing for user needs, mapping user journeys and designing accessible content. You'll engage with a wide variety of stakeholders, so must be able to operate at all levels, and explain the benefits of user-centered accessible content design. You will have a strong eye for detail, be able to work with large amounts of information and plan your time effectively.

Principal accountabilities:

  1. analyse user needs and turn them into content
  2. scope, commission, write, edit and publish digital content
  3. produce content assets that are accurate, timely, high quality (based on insight and outputs of user testing, relevant to the audience, easily understood, optimised for search engines) and to style
  4. manage relationships with subject matter experts to make sure content is accurate
  5. choose the best format for displaying information to the user - if we don’t have one, we’ll want you to suggest ideas or identify the gap
  6. make sure appropriate policy and legal checks happen and that content is published quickly and efficiently
  7. monitor the performance of content and tools
  8. identify ways to improve the content and the product
  9. provide constructive criticism to your colleagues to improve everyone’s skills and work.
