Secondary Schools Project Lead

The starting salary for this position is £15,636.50 per annum based on 18 hours per week, pro-rata to £31,273.

We are looking for an outstanding person to coordinate our county wide Secondary Teacher Training (SETT) Programme. Sport England’s SETT programme has been designed to provide teachers with access to professional development, to enable them to put student’s enjoyment and their activity choices at the heart of their PE, school sport and physical activity offer.

The programme should impact hard to reach (typically inactive) young people, improve the physical and mental wellbeing of students and inspire them to use physical activity to improve their academic outcomes.

In this role you will be responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating the impact across the 51 partner Surrey secondary schools. The role will require significant levels of consultation and partnership working with a large number of secondary schools, including engagement with Senior Leadership Teams.

You will have experience in the secondary education setting and a proven track record of delivering a range of interventions, training programmes or solutions resulting in the successful delivery of a wide ranging programme that champions a physically active culture that supports whole-school improvement.

We are looking for someone with a relevant qualification or experience in sport, physical activity or teaching, who has strong communication (verbal and written) and organisational skills and an understanding of the barriers and issues schools face and the challenges of engaging inactive young people. You must have experience of working with young people and volunteers (of mixed ages and abilities).

In this role you will: 

  • Work strategically with key partners to identify key outcomes and evaluation criteria
  • Effectively plan, monitor and evaluate the programme and budget
  • Build and maintain relationships with Senior Leadership Teams in schools
  • Share best practice and build sustainability for the future

Active Surrey, part of the national Active Partnerships (AP) Network, is a not for-profit organisation, hosted by Surrey County Council. Based at Active Surrey’s office in Woking, the job will involve meetings with partners and clients so the ability to travel around the county is therefore required for this post. Travel costs are reimbursed. The work will also include occasional weekend and evening work.
