About the role

Brighton & Hove City Council is seeking a full-time technical systems expert to lead our Finance Systems Support team providing daily operational front-line systems support to the council and its customers. You will use your technical and process expertise in accounting to identify finance system issues and provide a route through to a solution. You will lead the finance systems support helpdesk and instigate improvements to applications and systems to reduce support calls and improve team efficiency. You will also lead the system governance process for data, ensuring data is secure and meets the necessary data standards. You will also be the lead for the provision of financial management information across the council.

Our financial systems support team is highly experienced and you will be working alongside the financial systems technical development lead to assist in the development of Finance used applications, both those that are in use and those being developed for implementation.

We are seeking a self-motivated, articulate, and competent individual with extensive knowledge and experience of supporting and developing financial systems, ideally the Civica Financials system.

The successful candidate will be highly organised, have excellent communication skills, with an ability to interact effectively and build relationships at all levels of the business. You will also need to have the ability to operate at an operational management level, and, importantly, the ability to lead and develop a high performing team to provide excellent customer service and have a proven track record of improving services to deliver high-quality, modern, innovative and customer focussed solutions.

The role sits between IT and Finance disciplines so the successful candidate will need to combine technical and process expertise in accounting with systems management / administration, process development and software development skill sets. You will need to hold a Finance degree or AAT qualification and have advanced IT skills, particularly relating to finance systems, reporting tools, and Excel. Previous experience working in public sector finance or similar organisations is desirable.

The role is traditionally based at Bartholomew’s House offices in Brighton. Please note that Brighton & Hove City Council is currently following the government’s advice on enabling staff to work from home if it is safe and practical to do so. Therefore, this role is highly likely to be required to work remotely to begin with until the council makes any changes to these working arrangements. 

We would consider remote working for the length of the fixed term contract; however there may be a requirement to attend the office on adhoc occasions.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
