Digital Development Officer

West Berkshire Council are looking for a Digital Development Officer to join our expanding Digital Services team, to work alongside experts in business analysis, content design and digital design, to help deliver the council’s ambitious new Digital Strategy.

This new role will support the council’s user-centric approach by creating the code behind new digital services, website templates, and other online solutions.

You’ll be able to create mock-ups or functioning prototypes for deeper insight and feedback on user journeys, new features and specific interactions and can make complex and technical information and language simple and accessible for non-technical audiences.

You’ll also be able to visualise, articulate and solve complex problems and concepts, and make decisions based on available information and research evidence, prioritising an interesting and varied workload reflective of the wide range of services the council offers.

The successful applicant will ideally have at least three years’ experience of creating and supporting back-end code in ASP .NET Core or using C# in ASP .NET MVC and server-side JavaScript including in runtime environment Node.JS, along with experience of client-side JavaScript, HTML and using CSS, as part of a digital product or services team ideally in the public sector.

Experience of using the GDS Design System and developing services and integrations in a digital platform or environment would also be an advantage.

West Berkshire Council offers excellent employment benefits such as flexible working, and at present the majority of your time will be spent working from home. Other benefits include the local government pension scheme, family friendly policies, and much more. You will also be entitled to a generous annual leave entitlement of 28 days per annum rising to a maximum of 33 days.

This role has been identified as public facing in accordance with Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2017; the requirement to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence in English applies.

This is a great opportunity for someone with excellent digital development skills to join an expanding team and help shape how digital services and information are delivered in West Berkshire.
