Community Engagement Officer

About us

Hillingdon Council: Putting our Residents first.

Cranford Park, for 300 years the home of the Berkeley Family, is now a beautiful country park, full of historic interest and wildlife. However, the historic buildings and landscape at the heart of the park are in poor condition, there are no visitor facilities and the park is not generally attracting families from the many diverse communities living nearby nor is it very accessible to those with disabilities.

The London Borough of Hillingdon, the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Cranford Park Friends are working together on an exciting project to restore and interpret the buildings and landscape, provide a café, meeting spaces, playgrounds and trails and develop a very varied programme of events and activities. The project is now in the delivery stage with a start on site expected in Autumn 2021.

About the role

This is a fixed term contract position for 4 years.

The Role of the Community Engagement Officer is key to the Project's objectives of attracting local individuals and families, from all communities and groups, into the Park to enjoy what it has to offer. It will involve encouraging access to the Park for new and existing visitor groups, developing engagement opportunities with schools and local community groups, particularly the diverse communities in Hayes and planning and implementing activities and events which will appeal to many different audiences.

The job is full-time for a fixed term of 4 years and is initially based at Manor Farm Ruislip, but later, in 2022, on site at Cranford Park. It will involve working as part of a team with the Borough Curator, Project Manager, Green Spaces and Stronger Communities Teams and the Cranford Park Friends. After the end of the project in 2025, there may be an opportunity to work in Activity Planning and Community Engagement across a number of the Borough's heritage sites, including Cranford Park.

About you

We are looking for an individual who is pro-active, creative, inspirational and outgoing. You will have a relevant degree and previous experience in Community Engagement with a wide variety of groups and schools. You will also enjoy working as part of a team, providing an excellent service to our residents, have the confidence and maturity to develop and prioritise your workload and have had experience of managing, promoting and running events, whether for small focus groups or larger events or festivals.

You will need to be computer literate, able to use social media and have experience of managing budgets. You will hold a valid driving licence and be able to work outside normal office hours if necessary, for example at weekend events.
