The fostering service comprises of a team of 10 supervising social workers and two practice leads responsible for the supervision and development of foster carers, including connected person’s, family and friends carers and carers subject to Regulation 24 procedures. The private fostering service is embedded within the fostering service with a stand-alone remit.

This is a dual fostering support and private fostering supervising social worker role:

Required: Responsibilities will include the supervision and support of foster carers to promote increased capacity for in-house foster placements with a focus on supervision and support, and the maintaining and development of standards of care.  The role will require practitioners who are skilled with a good understanding around the procedures and legislative context of fostering and related children looked after processes.

Knowledge around The role of Private Fostering Social Worker is to be responsible for monitoring private fostering care arrangements in the borough, undergoing Regulation 8 visits and ensuring that the Service maintains high standards and compliance with the 'Children (Private Arrangements for Fostering) Regulations 2005’ and ‘National Minimum Standards for Private Fostering 2005’.

As with all statutory social work childcare roles, a working knowledge of core child care legislation is essential and candidates will need to have a Children’s Services background, preferably within a fostering setting.
