Events Manager, Pink Ribbon Walks

The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a lively, dynamic, and driven fundraising Events Team. Over the last decade, Breast Cancer Now has built up a strong events function, with community and events currently accounting for nearly a quarter of the charity’s overall voluntary income.

We are now looking for an experienced and driven Events Manager to lead a team and manage and deliver the portfolio of our flagship fundraising challenges, the Pink Ribbon Walks (PRWs) – leading on all aspect’s delivery, through innovative marketing, stewardship, and event planning. You will support the creation and delivery of the Events strategy, developing a varied and impactful portfolio (live and virtual) which positions Breast Cancer Now as the go-to charity for events and a leader in event experience.

With the support of the Senior Events Manager and Head of Events the Events Manager will lead a dedicated team, analyse performance, and explore new opportunities. You will have responsibility for your own budget area and have line management (not all direct) for one Event Officers, one Event Executive and one Event Co-ordinator.

This past year has been incredibly challenging within the charity events sector, we have had to cancel the events in 2020 and 2021 but are looking ahead to the exciting delivery of the events in 2022 and an ambitious 5-year plan to develop and grow the Pink Ribbon Walks further and increase our reach.

About you

We are looking for someone with strong events fundraising experience in delivering mass participants events. You will have experience of full event management from sourcing venues and suppliers to developing marketing and stewardship strategies. You will work with an external consultant to support the logistic delivery of the events and ensure the events are delivered to a high quality, in a safe and trusted atmosphere.

You will be an experienced budget manager, managing a complex six-figure budget, to set and meet financial targets and ensure a good return on investment for the charity. You will be experienced in identifying opportunities and feeding into strategic direction.

An excellent communicator you can build relationships across multiple stakeholders, from corporate sponsors to event suppliers. You will also have experience working with multiple teams to deliver a cross-organisational project to ensure expertise is brought in to support the delivery of the event, particularly with creative, digital, comms, marketing, and supporter care teams.

We are also looking for someone with excellent line management skills to develop your team and motivate to build, innovate, and deliver excellent results.

About the Pink Ribbon Walks

The Pink Ribbon Walks are Breast Cancer Now’s flagship fundraising events and have raised over £14.5m since their inception in 2005. Every summer, thousands of people gather to walk 10 or 20 miles around some of the most iconic and stunning locations in the UK to raise vital funds for people affected by breast cancer.

The past couple of years have sadly seen us need to cancel these events after great success in 2019, and we are now looking to build this area of events back up with an exciting and ambitious 5-year plan to continue delivery of our well-loved live events as well as introducing new ways to engage a wider audience in the Pink Ribbon Walks, ensuring we maintain the quality and caring approach throughout.
