Senior Safeguarding Adults Officer

Hours: 37 hours per week

Contract: Fixed term for 12 months (or until the postholder’s return if earlier)

Are you passionate about promoting people’s rights and strengths while protecting adults at risk from abuse? If so, this post may be for you.

North Somerset Council is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to a social worker or registered health professional with extensive experience of safeguarding adults work. Starting in July 2021, a fixed term full-time vacancy has arisen for a Senior Safeguarding Adults Officer to cover maternity leave for up to 12 months.

You will work in a supportive team that leads safeguarding adults work across the council. The successful applicant will be responsible, under the supervision of the safeguarding adults manager, for coordinating the local authority response to safeguarding adults concerns through independently making S.42(1) decisions and undertaking S.42(2) safeguarding adults enquiries. This will involve chairing safeguarding adults meetings. Whilst significant experience in safeguarding adults work is essential, you will receive support to develop the skills to become an expert in this area of work. It is a high-profile role that involves undertaking service monitoring activities, whole service enquiries and work with adults who are funded by health and other local authorities. You will also support other adult care teams in their complex safeguarding responses and provide advice and guidance on safeguarding adults matters to local authority and multi-agency partners.

You will also have a key role in supporting the work of the safeguarding adults board sub-groups, policy and process development and training.

North Somerset Council recognises the importance of work life balance. We offer competitive rates of pay, a generous leave package, flexible / mobile working arrangements, an employee assistance service and the opportunity to join a final salary pension scheme.

This post is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

For an informal discussion, please contact Jo Baker, Service Leader Strategic Safeguarding & Quality Assurance on 01275 88 8244.

Anticipated interview date:    Friday 09 July 2021
