Speech and Language Therapy Team Lead

The starting salary for this position is £40,227 per annum based on 36 hour working week.

If you feel ready for a new challenge and would like to be part of a developing service that is dynamic and different then this may be the new opportunity you have been looking for.

The L-SPA was developed in July 2020 as part of Surrey County Council’s ongoing commitment to transformation and in response to the identified priorities in the Surrey SEND Partnership strategy.

The L-SPA work is primarily led by two elements: operational and developmental. From the 1st January 2021 the L-SPA took on the Week 1-6 process of the statutory assessment process from receipt of request to final decision making. Request for Assessment is the operational strand of the L-SPA’s remit however, moving forward we will be focussing on developing our Request for Support pathways which will be an exciting area of development requiring innovative approaches embedded in evidence-based practice. We are also beginning the work of merging with our Early Help Hub (C-SPA) which will mean we can work more closely with Social Care colleagues.

The L-SPA team are problem solvers, innovators and above all passionate about delivering the best possible for outcomes for children in a timely and supportive way. We work closely with our colleagues to help children, young people and families, to be solutions focussed and take a strengths-based approach to identifying and meeting needs without having to depend on statutory plans. We pride ourselves on being child and young person centred and place great emphasis on our communication standards and the value we can add to the work undertaken by our colleagues and partners.

We are seeking a Speech & Language Therapy Team Lead to be part of our multi-disciplinary team (MDT) which is the heart of the L-SPA work. In this role you will not ordinarily be expected to undertake direct work with children and young people but will act as the decision maker for the L-SPA MDT as to whether to agree an SLT assessment. Therefore, experience of decision making and accountability is essential for this position. In this role, you will also be expected to represent the L-SPA in meetings with parents and providers where there is challenge to our decision making.

The person we are seeking will:

  • Be a qualified SLT and HCPC registered
  • Be confident working as part of a multi-disciplinary service
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Have a professional interest in strengths-based approaches, promoting child and family resilience and restorative practice or be willing to learn

At Surrey, our values and behaviours are just as important as our skills and abilities. They shape who we are as an organisation. Find out more about the values we follow.
