Young Persons Officer

Harborough District Council’s vision is to work with communities in a vibrant, safe and prosperous district and to bring the best opportunities to all.

We are in need of a passionate advocat who will thrive on engaging, listening and working collaboratively with individuals and communities to support the recovery from Covid. In this role you will lead conversations with young people aged 11 to 25 and their families about  concerns, key issues and aspirations and help develop the councils Young Person Strategy. This exciting new post will receive support from the Community Partnership Team which includes Community Safety, Housing and Health and Wellbeing.

The role requires knowledge and experience in supporting hard to reach groups, such as young people at risk of offending, young people from the traveller community, young people with a disability and young people leaving or in the care of the Local Authority.

Conversations in this role may be challenging, however, with your confident and innovative approach, key issues that arise may offer fresh ways of working going forwards. With skills in project management and being strategic thinker, you will be able to understand the bigger picture before,  working collaboratively and in partnership, to find solutions.  Building networks and partnerships both within Harborough District Council and with a wide variety of groups such as schools, colleges, employers, county council services, police and the voluntary sector.

You will be given the flexibility to plan your time and working hours. Working primarily from home you will also work in the office for face to face meetings and to build working relationships with colleagues. Some evening and weekend work will be necessary to support engagement activities.

An enhanced DBS, drivers licence and access to a vehicle are other key requirements.
