Lawyer - Planning

We are looking for a Lawyer (Planning) with the right mix of creativity, skill and motivation to add to a strong in-house legal team. You will need to have comprehensive understanding and knowledge of Town and Country Planning within the public sector. Your planning work will include planning and other infrastructure obligations, planning advice, and attendance at Planning Committee.

This is an exciting time to join us, as we continue to grow and develop our service. Career development is something we are very passionate about; we are committed to building an exceptional in-house Legal Service, utilising our colleague's talent and making the most of what they have to offer.

About the role

You will be able to demonstrate experience of dealing with planning enquiries, providing advice at planning committees and negotiation/completion of S.106 and highways agreements. You will have strong drafting and negotiating skills and the ability to provide persuasive legal advice to a variety of audiences, including senior officers. You will be able to conduct your caseload with minimum supervision.

About you

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who has either recently qualified or who has strong legal experience and wants to expand their existing knowledge and experience. You must be either a qualified solicitor, barrister or chartered legal executive (or equivalent), although it is not essential to have worked in local government.

You will have a 'can do' enabling approach and play a vital role in the next stage of the Council’s continuous improvement journey.

Our offer

We are looking to appoint one post M2/M3 (up to £47,232)– full time (37 hours per week). Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the criteria as described in the Role Specification at the specified grade for the post for which they are applying.
