The Natural Environment Manager is a new posted created to develop and deliver the council’s new green infrastructure strategy and action plan.
You will be joining the newly formed service of Open Space, Natural Environment and Leisure which is responsible for development, maintenance and infrastructure investment in our parks and seafronts and delivering improvements to green infrastructure, leisure facilities, and parks and open spaces. As a council we are committed to contributing to better neighbourhoods and outcomes for our residents through strong local engagement and devolved delivery models.
You’ll be managing a team of staff and will report to the Head of Open Space, Natural Environment and Leisure. You will have experience of either directly or indirectly managing staff to deliver community facing services and projects.
Your team has a wide range of responsibilities including trees, rights of way, ecology and landscape and our emerging green infrastructure strategy and action plan shows a strong commitment to the delivery of these services. Working closely with colleagues the Natural Environment service is key in supporting the council's priorities to improve physical and mental wellbeing across North Somerset, addressing the nature and climate emergency and providing timely technical advice to the Planning service. In managing this service you will be responsible for developing ways to enhance biodiversity, increase tree planting and develop the rights of way network alongside ensuring effective responses to planning applications and contributing to our emerging Local Plan.
You will ensure that services meet local demand by working in partnership with local communities and be able to demonstrate your ability to deliver service transformation and alternative service delivery models in the context of reduced funding.
You will have experience in a similar role, preferably within a local authority setting, and be able to demonstrate a track record of successful delivery of natural environment projects, managing valued local resources such as rights of ways or trees and creating and sustaining successful partnerships with external organisations, including community led organisations.
You should have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and be computer literate.
