This key role, providing strategic and professional finance support and advice, particularly regarding VAT, will give you the chance to develop and manage tax planning, reporting and compliance across the Council. The role will involve ensuring that Central Bedfordshire Council is compliant with VAT rules, completing HMRC returns to reclaim VAT on a monthly basis (circa £3M) and working to improve existing processes where necessary. You will be required to investigate and resolve queries from internal and external customers. We are seeking applicants who have VAT experience, able to work at pace and have excellent Excel skills.

 

In addition, the role will assist in the accounting for and reconciliation of S106 developer contributions which have become more significant over recent years given extensive housing development in Central Bedfordshire.

 

You will also assist the Principal Accountant (Financial Control) in the closure of annual accounts within the prescribed timescale and standards laid down by the Chief Finance Officer and the Head of Corporate Finance.

 

Preferably AAT qualified and with excellent organisational skills, you will be able to adapt to any given situation, demonstrating your ability to provide informed and reliable financial advice in all circumstances. You will be an excellent communicator and a good team player with knowledge and experience of Local Government finance.

 

Following business process efficiencies, this position is being offered up to 29.6 hours per week. We are flexible with regards the number of days that this is worked over and the COuncil is also able to offer flexibility with regards to working location.
