More about the role:
The Council has adopted its first Sustainability Plan and we are now recruiting the team to help deliver this. The Senior Sustainability Officer (Trees Project) will be a key new member of the team, and will play a central role in delivering the Council's ambitions for a sustainable future with respect to the flagship tree planting project.
This post will work closely with colleagues across the council, as well as in our neighbouring authorities to manage, develop and deliver tree planting schemes. This will also include engaging with key stakeholders, communities, schools and businesses on tree planting schemes, supporting them to develop their own projects in a way that will ensure a lasting impact as well maximising further potential funding opportunities and improve co-benefits including biodiversity net gain, recreational and educational benefit etc.
This is a complex and high-profile area of work, so we are looking for an experienced project manager with an ecologist or woodland (or equivalent) background in developing and delivering sustainability initiatives, projects, and strategy. This role requires excellent communication skills and experience of working closely with councillors and other key stakeholders and presenting to senior management.
The successful candidate will have considerable practical experience of delivering a range of tree projects, both in terms of contract management, procurement and an understanding of key challenges and opportunities related to delivering projects and initiatives in this area in order to support sustainability and the climate challenge.
