More about the role:

The Council has endorsed its first ‘Sustainability Plan’ with the objective to become carbon neutral by 2030 and support the ‘2050 vision’ for Central Bedfordshire.

We are now recruiting the team to help deliver this.  The Sustainability Officer will support the delivery of the broad range of work focused on reducing CO2 emissions from the council’s estate, supporting residents, businesses, and schools to be more environmentally friendly, by working with departments across the council, helping embed sustainability into everything the council does.

This is a complex and high-profile area of work, so we are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a can-do approach in developing and delivering sustainability initiatives, projects, and strategy.  This role will be responsible for delivering and supporting a number of the council’s flagship sustainability projects, including a new sustainable schools and youth climate leadership programme, as well as supporting carbon reduction and sustainability projects within the new sustainability team.

This role requires excellent communication skills and experience of working closely with stakeholders and presenting to a range of audiences.  The successful candidate will have practical experience of delivering a range of projects and have knowledge and understanding of sustainability and the climate challenge.

Central Bedfordshire Council has its own vision and values that are integral to everything we do. Our area vision is to make Central Bedfordshire 'A great place to live and work’.

To assess your suitability for the role, you must demonstrate how you meet the key outcomes, accountabilities and competencies. To do this, you’ll need to refer the Family Profile, Role Profile and Competency Framework which can be found in the Recruitment Pack: Sustainability Officer
