1:1 Classroom Assistant

Level HBC2 - Scale Point 3-4

32 hours per week Monday – Friday

Contract Type: Temporary until 31 August 2022 to support a child with additional needs or until the child leaves the School (either voluntarily or be subject to a permanent exclusion); no longer requires support or the funding is reviewed, whichever is the sooner.

Job Details: The Governing Body are seeking to appoint a caring, sensitive and patient Special Needs Classroom Assistant to support a child in Lower Key Stage 2 with Down’s syndrome and speech and language needs.

The child needs 1:1 support in order to allow them to access their curriculum and participate fully in school life. The ability to form a safe, secure and supportive relationship with the child whilst showing patience and understanding will be an essential requirement of the successful candidate. Experience of Makaton is essential.

The child requires intimate care together with support for dressing.

Working under the direction of the class teacher and SENCO you will need to demonstrate a commitment to teamwork, have experience of working with children with speech and language needs and possess effective communication skills as you will be liaising closely with the parents and other professionals.

Suitable candidates should be willing / able to:-

  • Provide a multi-sensory approach to all teaching and learning activities
  • Maintain firm boundaries in a calm manner
  • Work to develop positive relationships
  • Break learning into manageable tasks
  • Give positive and constructive feedback to the child
