Duties of the post/ Who we’re looking for:

This is an exciting opportunity to join an established team at Adur & Worthing Councils which operate a joint service across two local authorities located on the South Coast and we are seeking an Environmental Health Technician to join our busy Environmental Protection service within our Public Health & Regulation Team.

You will deal with a wide range of environmental protection matters, so it is essential you have a comprehensive knowledge of relevant environmental protection legislation and enforcement. A knowledge of and experience in acoustics, air quality and/or environmental permitting would be an advantage.

The successful candidate will work as part of a busy, flexible, friendly, inclusive and professional team. Team working skills are key as is the ability to work with others across the Council and with external organisations and businesses. Good communication skills are vital. You will also be a clear and accurate record keeper and use your knowledge and intuition to seek desirable outcomes.

What we can offer

We are a forward thinking organisation and you will have the opportunity to develop and grow in this role.  On top of this, you’ll get an excellent pay package with five weeks of paid leave per year (+ bank holidays) and a local government pension.

We offer flexible working conditions and benefits that can be tailored to suit you - from our parental leave policies through to employee discounts, we are committed to supporting you throughout your career with us.

We are currently making lasting changes to working post-Covid, which will provide opportunities for greater flexible working.

For more detailed information on this role, please refer to the Job Description and Person Specification.

For an informal discussion, please contact Nadeem Shad, Team Leader (Environmental Protection) on 01273 263303, nadeem.shad@adur-worthing.gov.uk

Staff are our most important asset and we therefore have a benefit package which reflects our continuing commitment to our employees.  This includes:

  • Generous leave entitlement; a minimum of 25 days + Bank Holiday entitlement
  • Local Government Pension
  • Training & development
  • Occupational Health
  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
  • Flexible working options

We are committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive community - a place where we can all be ourselves and succeed on merit. Staff work in a supportive and safe environment, recognising their responsibility to value and respect each other’s contributions. Standards of conduct must be of the highest level to ensure that no-one is harassed, bullied or victimised. We offer a range of family friendly, inclusive employment policies, staff engagement forums and are keen to hear from applicants from a variety of different backgrounds.
