About the role, working closely under supervision with experienced trades-person, whilst gaining the skills and experience to support you in undertaking a recognised apprenticeship qualification. To assist in the diagnosis of faults, rectifying or renewing parts as required to maintain Horticultural and Turfcare machinery including ancillary equipment in a safe and useable condition. To carry out a wide range of duties connected with the repairs and maintenance of the council-owned fleet in an efficient, effective, and customer-focused manner.

Assist in identifying and shadow specified on-the-job training for Workshop and Parks staff if required

Support and attend team briefings and team meetings both in the workshop and other facilities, contributing to an open and honest work environment.

Awareness of the need to negotiate Best Value and lowest price Procurement.

Working and liaising with a range of stakeholders including other Councils, Wirral Council departments, Customers, and service users to ensure the effective operation of Workshop facilities.

  • Keen desire to work within the Horticultural and Turfcare specific industry
  • Willingness to undertake specific training
  • Good communication skills in order to promote the service and liaise with internal partners, friends and user groups including stakeholders and colleagues.
  • Ability to manage change.
  • Ability and commitment to improve standards.
  • An understanding of and an ability to deliver excellent customer service to internal customers.
  • 5 GCSE's including English and Maths and Double Science at grade C/4 or above.
  • Health and Safety awareness.
