Meat Hygiene Inspector

An exciting opportunity exists to work for the Falkland Islands Government, Department of Natural Resources as a Meat Hygiene Inspector (MHI) in the Islands’ EU approved abattoir for the 21/22 export season. The season is anticipated to run from November 2021 to May 2022 but the working period can be flexible.

The Role

The role will primarily involve performing post mortem inspection of cattle and sheep on a daily basis as well as undertaking some more supervisory and regulatory duties within the abattoir and Department of Natural Resources, supported by the Department and Official Veterinarian. 

The Person

Applicants should hold a Certificate in Meat Hygiene Inspection from the Royal Society of Health (or equivalent) and have at least three years’ practical experience of working in a European Union approved abattoir with the ability to work well under pressure as you will be the only MHI on the line.

  • Fixed Term Contract from November 2021 to May 2022.
  • Starting Salary - £31,577 up to £35,133 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience) rising to £38,998.
  • 41 days paid leave, 30 days paid annual leave ([pro-rated for part months) plus 11 government and public holidays (which fall during this appointment).
