Senior Strategy Officer

About Southwark:

As a council, we are successful, passionate and forward thinking. We are committed to tackling injustice and inequalities, and rebuilding our local economy following the pandemic, ensuring that our residents and businesses are central to everything we do.

As a diverse central London borough, Southwark faces a range of challenges, which we aim to address through the delivery of the Borough Plan. We are looking for candidates to join our team to help us continue to make Southwark an inclusive borough for all our communities.

Southwark Council is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds. We monitor our recruitment practices to check that we are employing people in a fair and non-discriminatory way. We also publish annual workforce reports. We are proud to have a workforce that reflects the diversity of our borough.

The role:

This role is part of the Local Economy Team, in the Chief Executive’s department, leading on the delivery of the Council Borough Plan commitment to deliver ‘a green and inclusive economy’. Key commitments under this promise include supporting 5,000 local people into jobs, including 1000 new green jobs.

You will lead and manage projects, including research and policy development, governance, community and business planning, commissioning, and performance and review as part of the broader work of the Strategy and Economy department and work collaboratively with partners to help deliver wider council commitments. The projects aim to help the council achieve a one council approach to change, delivering savings whilst continuing to support some of the most vulnerable people in our borough.

The role is varied and can at times be complex and demanding. It is a position that will enable you to engage with a wide range of people and services. While working within a team, you will also have contact with the most senior officers and with elected members of the Council.

About you:

You will have the ability to work collaboratively and purposefully with partners in other departments of the Council and in partner organisations locally and nationally to help deliver council commitments.

You will need to display leadership qualities to manage and deliver high profile and crosscutting projects across a range of strategy functions. You must also be able to engage effectively with a wide range of people and services, including senior officers and elected members of the council.

Application process:

If you are interested in applying for this role, please complete the application form and submit your suitability for the role, by using the Personal Specification to highlight your skills.

Additional details:

Please note this role is being offered on a fixed term contract basis for a duration of 18 months.
