An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic and committed individual to join our fast-paced Planning Policy team as a Planning Technician to assist with monitoring and research. It is an ideal role for a candidate seeking to progress a career in Planning or someone with transferable skills looking for a new opportunity.
The new Local plan for Hastings is setting will need to set ambitious targets for development and change. We know we need to deliver new homes and jobs to create the communities of the future and ensure the creation of high-quality places. Simultaneously, we need to address the challenges of climate change and support the implementation of our ambitious programme for the regeneration.
You will be responsible for a range of technical planning work, including research, report writing, monitoring of data and production of graphic and communication material, as well as supporting the administrative work of the team.
What you’ll be doing…
Monitoring information and evidence gathering are essential parts of the planning process as we collect data and information to evaluate the performance of Local Plan policies and to inform future policy work areas. The Planning Policy Technician will have a key role collecting monitoring information to support the Planning Policy Team. This will include site visits and collating information to respond to a range of requests, as well as preparing reports and other related general duties. You will also have an important role supporting the Planning Policy team in the development of the new Plan, in the lead up to the Plan’s submission and during the Local Plan examination process.
Who we are looking for…
You should be well organised with an eye for detail. You’ll need good numeracy, literacy, and strong IT skills. You’ll have effective written and verbal communication skills and be able to work as part of a team to meet tight deadlines. You will need to have a flexible approach to and enjoy problem solving. Having the ability to carry out research, prepare reports and deliver information to a variety of audiences will be essential to your success.
You will also need to demonstrate an awareness for planning issues and developments. Above all, you will show a passion for the work we are doing and the drive to achieve great results.
To apply for this role, you will be educated to A level or equivalent including GCSE level English and Maths or equivalent. You will have customer service experience as well as relevant experience in a technical role which required you to use ICT. Experience of using computer databases, and Microsoft packages such as PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Outlook is essential.
