We’re looking for a brilliant Policy, Public Affairs and Business Advisor to support our driven Leader of the Council.
Waltham Forest is a fiercely ambitious Council, adapting to meet the ever-changing demands and pressures on our public services. This post plays a key role in helping the Leader of the Council to make sure we meet our priorities and provide the best possible services and opportunities for our residents.
From undertaking research and preparing and co-ordinating briefings, to providing an effective policy analysis and writing complex and sensitive briefings, advice papers and reports, this exciting new role will see you act as a key source of advice and support, helping to drive the strategic priorities of the Council and providing invaluable support to our leadership.
This role is essential and plays a key role in ensuring that the Leader’s office runs smoothly – including line managing the Executive Assistant to the Leader - to enable the Chief Executive to deliver key priorities. This will include writing briefings and speaking notes, drafting and reviewing written material, and proactively horizon scanning, picking up early on emerging needs, issues and opportunities in service of the organisation and the residents it exists for. You will be expected and encouraged to be proactive, put forward ideas and solutions, and deliver on key activity in support of the leadership team.
The post holder will be expected to form effective relationships with colleagues across the organisation, as well as external partners. They will coordinate and facilitate strategic forward planning for the Leader in liaison with the Chief Executive, Management Board and Senior Leadership Team. You will also be tasked with monitoring and acting upon Government announcements and developments in Parliament, the London Assembly and other political forums in order to provide high quality and timely support and advice to the Chief Executive.

You will be able to build effective relationships with the Leader, Elected Members, Chief Executive, Management Board, Directors and senior managers across the organisation, as well as other key stakeholders and wider staff.
You will have experience of making sound judgements, delegating tasks and influencing and advising senior colleagues in a busy and demanding working environment. You will be able to cope under pressure, working at pace and flexibly, delivering to high standards and strict deadlines.
