The starting salary for this position is £45,734 per annum based on a 36 hour working week.

As a Senior Health and Safety Advisor at Surrey County Council, you will use your knowledge and skills to promote a positive health and safety culture in the workplace. You will promote and develop health and safety strategies, ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements within 'Land and Property' and advise the Senior Leadership Team regarding the development of the Service’s health, safety and welfare policy and procedures.
In this role, you will provide advice and guidance to senior management and other staff on any proposed changes to legislation and other procedures required by the Health and Safety Executive and other external agencies, which will impact on service strategies, especially financial resources. Working in a team partnering other health and safety advisors within a Centre of Excellence, you will support managers to deliver a safe working environment.
We have a strong health and safety culture and are keen to enhance this further using innovative initiatives, therefore an important aspect of this role will be to provide strategic advice to 'Land and Property' to enable the service to undertake the measures necessary to comply with health and safety law (as required by Regulation 7 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999).
We're looking for someone who not only has extensive health and safety experience but, just as important to us, is that you have great communication skills so that you can share this knowledge with others. Negotiating and influencing skills will be crucial to support our managers in understanding your recommendations. Sometimes this will involve presenting complex information in a way that can be easily understood.
Equally, we're looking for people who can confidently work in a collaborative way - successfully motivating, coaching and developing staff!
To be shortlisted to interview for this position your application will clearly evidence:
- Experience of working within an organisation with a strong health and safety culture
- A level 6 health and safety qualification (NEBOSH Diploma or similar)
- Chartered Member of IOSH or working towards this
- Proven in-depth knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and requirements in a public sector or large complex organisation
- A good understanding of CDM
- Sound performance management and benchmarking skills
- Experience in planning and delivering organisational improvements.
- Project management skills and experience
