Independent Fostering Panel Chair

A fee of £500 is paid per panel meeting inclusive of all preparation and post panel paperwork.

As Panel Chair you will be required to take responsibility for chairing panel meetings in accordance with Fostering Regulations and Sefton Councils policies and procedures. Keeping the experience of the Child at the centre of your discussions you will lead the independent scrutiny of Fostering Assessments and Foster Carer Reviews in order to make recommendations to the Agency Decision Maker in respect of carer’s suitability to foster and/or any changes to their approval.

You will have experience of the Fostering Sector either professionally or personally and ideally experience as a panel chair/ vice chair. You will have up to date knowledge of the legislative framework for Fostering; a comprehensive understanding of the National Minimum Standards and current good practice initiatives. We would welcome applications from those with a background and knowledge in education, health, police, probation, social work, foster caring or adoption and care experience of young people.

You will provide leadership to the panel by being well prepared, reading panel papers carefully, identifying and creating a safe space to consider complex issues and alerting the Panel Advisor if necessary, to any concerns.

Sefton Fostering Service is going through a period of transformation and so this is an exciting time to become involved. We want you as Panel Chair to support the development of the Fostering Service through strong links to the Panel Advisor, Fostering Management Team and the Agency Decision Maker. Good listening, verbal and written communication skills are essential as you will be required to prepare an annual report and assist in the recruitment, appointment, training and appraisal of panel members as required.

You will be provided with the necessary I.T equipment to support safe transmission of paperwork.  Currently, panel meetings are being held virtually although we hope for meetings to resume face to face as soon as it is safe to do so.

For an informal discussion please contact Sue Morrow, Sefton Panel Advisor on 07814138664 or by email
