More Information

Natural Environment Officer

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in delivering the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead’s strategy for sustainability and climate change. You will be an important member of the Council’s growing Sustainability and Climate Change team sitting within the wider Infrastructure, Sustainability and Economic Growth service.

In July 2019 the Council declared a climate emergency and established a Cross-Party Working Group to undertake an in-depth review of the council’s current carbon footprint and to formulate, consult and agree on a net Zero Carbon Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead by 2050 Strategy. The strategy was approved by the Council in December 2020 and we are now looking ahead to deliver against the action plan it sets out.

In this exciting new role you will take responsibility for developing and delivering projects detailed in our Environment & Climate Strategy and our new Biodiversity Action Plan. This will include writing funding applications, managing key stakeholders and monitoring project budgets.

You will support the environmental educational activities undertaken at the Braywick Nature Centre, liaising with schools and community groups and delivering engaging and informative sessions for both children and adults. We welcome new, innovative ideas on how to engage people in the natural environment.
You will need to ensure equipment and materials are up to date and properly stored, ready for use.

The Council works closely with the community to undertake nature conversation and you will be responsible for planning and delivery of these tasks. Effectively managing volunteers will be essential and in some cases contractors to ensure positive environmental outcomes.

Experience of responding to planning application consultations would be an advantage as would experience of landscape visual impact assessments.

The role will be mainly based at the Braywick Nature Centre in Maidenhead but there will be some opportunity for homeworking. In addition, there will be a requirement to travel to Council sites across the Borough.

If you wish to discuss this position informally please contact James Thorpe, Sustainability and Climate Change Lead, by email james.thorpe@rbwm.gov.uk
