Cemetery and Crematorium Operative

Situated on the borders of Bracknell and Wokingham, Easthampstead Park Cemetery and Crematorium has been serving the local and extended community and far beyond, for 50 years.  With over 2000 cremations and 100 burials a year, we pride ourselves with being the first choice for many bereaved families.  A big part of what makes us so special are our 22 acres of memorial and cemetery grounds which provide a calming environment to reflect for those who visit all year round.

Working within the Cemetery and Crematorium is varied and interesting. It requires a calm and caring approach when dealing with the bereaved, along with Clergy, Officiants and Funeral Directors.  Although it can be challenging at times it is also extremely rewarding.

Because we're Bracknell Forest...

What it’s like working in our team…

We operate with a small close-knit team of 8 people and although having to maintain a formal approach to our work we work closely together and support each other.  Each day is different, but our core function always remains the same.

You will be supported to carry out the following duties, responsibilities and training…

The role is spilt between assisting our Grounds Maintenance team and operating the cremators along with the detailed administration you will be required to complete.  You will be put forward for the ICCMs (The Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management) Cremator Technician, an industry recognised qualification.  You will be operating grounds maintenance equipment such has hedge cutters, strimmers, walk behind and ride on mowers.  Training will be given wherever needed or available.  You will be required to work one weekend in three including a 1 hour late shift on the week prior to the weekend working.

The benefits you will experience are…

  • Regular opportunities for development with internal and external training courses.
  • An inclusive and social working environment.
  • Flexible working opportunities including a flexi-time scheme.
  • Internal sports and social club opportunities.
  • Discounted leisure centre and gym membership.
  • Overtime paid for one in three weekends .
  • An interest free loan for a rail season ticket.

What we’re looking for…

The post holder has a key role in assisting the Easthampstead Park Cemetery and Crematorium team in maintaining and improving the standards expected from the users of the premises.  You need to be multi tasking, dealing with burials, cremations, ground maintenance and car parking.  Computer literacy is important as is the ability to show knowledge, awareness and understanding when dealing with the bereaved, mourners and visitors.
