Principal Planning Officer

Are you an experienced senior planning officer looking for a new challenge?

We’ve got an exciting opportunity to help manage and lead one of our Development Management Teams in a role which is interesting, varied and challenging.

About the role

Reporting to our Head of Development Management, you will be a team player able to work closely with your planning colleagues, as well as with others across the Council.

You will:

  • Lead and manage a team of planning officers.
  • Assess mainly major planning applications, but be flexible to work on other applications.
  • Provide pre-application advice.
  • Defend planning decisions at appeal.
  • Support and mentor junior members of the team.

Who are we looking for?

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Have broad experience in development management.
  • Have experience of managing all types of appeals.
  • Are a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute.
  • Have good organisational and time management skills.
  • Have excellent communication skills, with a focus on customer service.
  • Good knowledge of planning legislation at local, regional and national level.
  • Have experience of presenting applications at Planning Committee.
