Procurement Support Assistant


An exciting opportunity has emerged for two temporary (12 months) Procurement Support Assistants to join Wirral Council's Corporate Procurement's purchasing team.


The post is part of a centralised team that fulfils the role of purchase coordinator using the Council's online purchasing system. The role is responsible for the validation of all non-catalogue requisitions and their progression to purchase orders, ensuring that all procurement activity under their control complies with the Council's Contracts Procedure Rules. You will also be responsible for online catalogue administration, maintaining the category-based supplier classification process and provide accurate records of maverick spend activity to support procurement category portfolios. Therefore, proven experience of using electronic systems and Microsoft office packages (especially Excel) is essential.


The role requires the candidate to have excellent teamwork skills and the ability to create good working relationships both across the Council and with external suppliers.


You will also need to have strong analytical expertise in relation to data manipulation and report generation, as well as the ability to organise and prioritise your daily tasks and workload.


You will need to be highly organised, have good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively.


You will provide advice and support to all users of the Oracle purchasing system and identify training needs.


You should be able to work to deadlines and confident in using your own initiative to identify and resolve problems.


Interviews are planned for week commencing 15th November 2021


This position will initially, in line with current government guidance be based from home.  In future, the Council will be moving to a hybrid of working arrangements for many of our roles with a combination of homeworking, office and site working as required.
