MST-CAN Therapist

Fixed Term until 31 March 2023

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Knowsley MST-CAN team.

Do you enjoy working in a challenging yet rewarding role with ongoing learning and strong supervisory and team support?  Then this may be the job for you!

We are looking for a suitably qualified person to join our small and friendly team as an MST-CAN Therapist.

The MST-CAN service aims to keep children who are open to Knowsley Children’s Social Care due to physical abuse or neglect safely within the home.

As an MST-CAN Therapist, with the support of the MST-CAN Supervisor and the rest of the MST-CAN team, you will deliver intensive systemic interventions, working collaboratively with caregivers in their homes and communities to prevent re-abuse and neglect.

Knowledge of child abuse and neglect and experience of working within this challenging area is therefore essential.  The ideal candidate will also have experience of applying psychological theory in their practice and delivering evidence-based interventions such as behavioural parenting techniques, structural and strategic family therapy, CBT and Motivational Interviewing.  The ability to work with children and adults facing multiple difficulties such as significant substance misuse, trauma and poor mental health is also an essential requirement.

This is a fantastic opportunity to build on your existing skills as a child and family practitioner by joining a small and dedicated team delivering good outcomes.  You will be given full training in the MST model and MST-CAN adaptation techniques.

In addition to your salary, you will receive on-call payments of £30 per session (weekday) and £35 per session (weekend and bank holiday) to cover the on-call rota 1 week in 3.

If you’d like to discuss the role further before applying, please call Sarah Ritson, MST-CAN Supervisor, on 07810054008 for an informal conversation.

You must be able to attend the MST 5-day training, MST-CAN 4-day training and 4-day trauma training which may be away from the locality and require overnight stays (COVID-restrictions dependent).
