Urban Design Officer

Epsom and Ewell Borough is a spectacular location. The ‘Home of the Derby’ and situated on the spring line, where the chalk of the South Downs meets London clay.

The Council has recently undergone a review of its structure bring together a range of related disciplines under one Place Making service, including Economic Development, Climate Change, Planning and Countryside services. We are investing in our future, increasing strategic capacity and exploring new ways of working.

The town planning process in England is going through a period of significant change. The Council is about to go live with a public consultation on a new Local Plan for the Borough,with a target of December 2023 for adoption. The Council wishes to put in place a new borough-wide Design Code to secure the high quality design reflective of the existing quality and character. Never has there been a more important time to be working on Planning and Place making issues.

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about urban design and place making, highly motivated and able to undertake a wide variety of work. This will include bringing a specialist knowledge of urban design, architecture and heritage to the Council. You will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects, including the preparation of bids for external funding, which will evolve over time.

This is a new role that can shape the way forward for the Borough by engaging with our residents, businesses and the wider community and partners to change behaviour.

If you have good project management skills, are a strong communicator and can work collaboratively across teams and organisations then we would like to hear from you. This position is based at Epsom Town Hall with occasional Borough site visits. Flexible working for the right candidate could be considered.
