Technical Officer

Lancaster City Council is seeking a Technical Officer to join the Repairs and Maintenance department within Environmental Services to assist with the delivery of the Council’s Housing Capital and Revenue Improvement Programme. The post holder will be required to work as part of a team preparing specifications and contract documentation for approved Planned and Contract Maintenance contracts. 

The successful candidate will also be required to ensure that all works are supervised and completed to a satisfactory standard and agreed budgets. The post holder will act as the Principal Designer, in accordance with the Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015 for all contracts managed.  There will be a requirement for the successful candidate to work within various areas of property compliancy, including gas, electric, fire, asbestos, water hygiene and lift safety, therefore knowledge in these areas would be beneficial 

As a minimum, you should possess an HNC or equivalent qualification in a building related subject, with experience in building repairs and maintenance. Good knowledge of current regulations and Health and Safety legislation relating to the construction industry is essential. 

Lancaster City Council has unanimously declared a climate emergency and will therefore work towards reducing carbon emissions to net-zero by 2030. As part of this role, you will be expected to participate and work towards reducing carbon emissions. 

A full current UK driving licence is essential, as the post holder will be required to visit properties throughout the district and also undertake site supervision 

The hours of work for this position are 37 hours per week, working Monday to Friday. The Council currently operates a Flexible Working Hours Scheme which applies to this post. This post is based at White Lund Depot, Morecambe
