Job Title: Fire Service Driving Instructor

Location: The Joint Emergency Services Academy (JESA), Stevenage

Salary Range: £27,741 pa progressing to £30,451 pa

Hours: 37 per week

Contract: Permanent


About you:

You must hold a current full driving licence which includes Category C Manual licence entitlement, due to the legal requirements for delivery of instruction this must have been held for at least three years. You will preferably be an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) and have experience of delivering instruction in LGV’s. Other desirables include Licence Categories C1E or CE, D1 or D, and qualifications in specialist vehicle’s such as Aerial appliances, Hook-lift, or FLT. It would be of benefit to have assessor and instructional qualifications, and to have emergency response driving experience.

Main Areas of Responsibility:


LGV Instruction and Emergency Response Driver Training (ERDT)


  • Driving assessment/evaluation/testing.
  • Basic LGV driving course to the same standard and requirement required by the DSA in the private sector (currently five days in length), including an LGV test.
  • ERDT is delivered over ten days, which includes a night-time drive. The instructor continually assesses the driver’s ability, teaching roadcraft and making progress in a controlled manner under blue light conditions
