Media & Communications Specialist

Fixed-term until 10th July 2022

Folkestone & Hythe is an extraordinary place to live, work and visit. With an established arts and cultural hub and unrivalled regeneration, including the Garden Town Otterpool Park, the area is well connected, with London just under an hour away via the High Speed rail link and access to mainland Europe via the Channel Tunnel.

While our modern offices are in the heart of Folkestone, with easy access to transport links, local shops, entertainment facilities and the seafront, we have an agile and flexible working culture that supports and encourages remote working where possible. Recognised by Best Companies as an outstanding organisation to work for, we have a real focus on staff engagement, health & wellbeing and development, and offer a benefits package that includes corporate membership and reward schemes, an Employee Assistance Programme and access to the Local Government Pension Scheme.

We are looking for an interim communications specialist to bring their experience and creative drive to our established and talented media team. You will play a key role in developing and delivering communications that promote the council’s activities and its ambitious corporate plan, as well as promoting Folkestone & Hythe as the place to live, visit, work and invest.

You will come from a solid communications background. Experienced in media relations as well as producing creative and outcome focused communications you will have a flair for social media and all forms of digital marketing. But above all else, if you’ve got first-class communication and interpersonal skills, can operate on your own initiative to identify key messages or potential reputational risks, and the ability to deliver campaign and marketing strategies across all forms of media, then we want to hear from you.

We appreciate that you may be seeking a position and regular work that can fit in with other commitments and there is a degree of flexibility in how the hours can be worked across the week.

For an informal discussion about the role and how the hours may work for you, please contact Jane Walker (Communications and Engagement Lead Specialist) via jane.walker@folkestone-hythe.gov.uk

The closing date for the receipt of all completed applications is 09:00 Wednesday 05 January 2022.
We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if enough suitable applications are received so urge any interested candidates to submit applications promptly.
