Head of Investment and Stewardship

The Surrey Pension Team are starting a new chapter with a refreshed vision and mission and ambitious plans for the future.

  • Our vision: To provide our customers with a better tomorrow
  • Our mission: To responsibly deliver a first-class customer experience

As Head of Investment and Stewardship you will be responsible for the design, implementation and performance monitoring of the investment strategy of a £5b+ multi-asset portfolio. The role will also incorporate collaborating with the Fund’s £55b+ asset management company, Border to Coast and its constituent local authority partner funds.

The Surrey pension fund is committed to aligning our investment strategy to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and for this reason we have placed responsibility for pension fund accounting within the Accounting & Governance team so that you can concentrate on shaping an exciting and ambitious responsible investment strategy, particularly following COP26 and the ongoing requirements of TCFD.

We are looking for ambitious individuals with a clear vision who want to make their mark.

Our newly redesigned workforce is integral to achieving our aims and ambitions for the future and we are looking for experienced leaders to complete our Senior Leadership Team. Your ability to drive our Vision and Mission through a “one pensions team” culture is crucial to our success and applicants who demonstrate this ability will be considered, irrespective of whether they have a background in pensions. If you have these leadership capabilities you will be supported to gain the technical expertise required for the role.

As a member of the senior leadership team you will work collaboratively with your peers focussing on holistic and integrated priorities agreed through challenge, continuous improvement and collaborative consensus. We are therefore looking for people who are able to:

Provide proactive & professional leadership – the ability to anticipate areas of challenge and risk and use prior learning to plan for the future by taking a calm and organised approach and utilising team strengths.

Improve Performance by strengthening skills and competence – we’re looking for people who are able to inspire and motivate the team, capitalise on areas of strength and successfully manage areas of development.

Foster a strong culture of standards and accountability – the newly designed Pension Team has been designed to break down existing silos and operate as an integrated flexible team who take ownership. We therefore require leaders who are able to drive the culture needed to support this new approach

Responsibly deliver a first-class customer experience – the customer is front and centre of everything we do and we need a leadership team who are able to bring that concept to life across the whole of the Pension Team.

Taking a holistic whole Pensions Team approach will drive opportunities for all staff to increase their career opportunities by broadening experience across the whole of the Pension service.
