Revenues Officer

The role

You will be responsible for the billing, collection and recovery of amounts due for council tax and business rates, including the dispatch of related notices and pursuit of unpaid debt.

Main responsibilities

Undertake a range of specialist tasks including:

  • Providing advice to council tax and business rate payers on the availability of exemptions, discounts and reliefs
  • Updating accounts for council taxpayers and business ratepayers, dispatching letters and issuing notices
  • Negotiating arrangements for payment outside of the statutory instalment scheme where appropriate
  • Checking arrangements previously agreed and pursuing further action if required
  • Attending the Magistrates’ Court on occasions to assist the senior officer who is representing the Council in court proceedings

Essential qualifications/experience-

  • Experience of working in a council tax and business rates service
  • Good customer care skills
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal
  • Knowledge of council tax and business rates legislation
  • 5 GCSEs (A-C or equivalent)

Occupational Health also works with us to resolve any issues in the workplace and also to ensure that well-being at work is maintained.
