Support Worker

Support Worker - (22209)

St Albans, Hertfordshire

Starting salary £23,000 per annum pro rata

Full and part time hours (lots of different shift patterns and hours available including days, nights, evenings and weekends)

Delivering support with a difference. That’s when it hits home.

We are looking for a team of Support Workers to join us at our supported living service, Nicholas House in St Albans.  We support our wonderful customers who are all young men with various levels of learning disabilities.

You’ll join our team supporting one of customers who have Autism, a learning disability and ADHD. You'll be supporting our customer who is 19 and has very high energy and is looking for an active team who can support him with his wide range of interests and hobbies and help him develop the skills to be as enabled and independent as possible. His interests include cycling, swimming, cooking, baking, gardening, hiking, climbing, trampolining, dancing and listening to music. He is looking for a team who is active, energetic, engaging, lively and playful.  If you are kind, caring and passionate about supporting our customer with his interests, improving his quality of life and helping him to live as independently as possible, then we would love you to join us.

Our building has been completely renovated with eight self-contained flats bespoke to each customer with a big garden (which has lots of space to grow plants or veg if he fancies that!). It’s on a lovely quiet road with lots of shops, great bus routes and a train station nearby, perfect for the commute or a day out.

About our team and the role

You’ll be working alongside our Clinical/Registered Manager, our Positive Behavioural Support Practitioner, your Team Leader and our Support Workers.  You’ll support our customer with all aspects of his day to day living, working in a person-centred way so that they can enjoy the best quality of life and live as independently as possible.  You’ll provide personal care in a strengths-based way, using creative solutions.

About you

You'll be engaging, lively with a kind and caring nature. We are looking for people who are passionate and motivated to help our customer with all aspects of his day to day living, including personal care and to help him reach his full potential.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking to expand their current knowledge and develop their skills.  Previous relevant experience is important whether in a similar role or caring for a family member, child or neighbour for example. What's important is that you have a passion for supporting our customer and truly wants to make a difference to his life.  We will provide you with lots of support and opportunities for professional development and career progression.

A Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent is preferred, but again not essential as we’ll fund and support you to gain the qualification if you don’t already have it. A current full driving license would be great to drive our customer in their own mobility car around the community, but it's not a deal breaker!

We also require that you have a valid Enhanced Check under the Disclosure and Barring Service which we will pay for.

In line with current Government legislation for CQC services, you must be fully COVID-19 vaccinated to work in this service, unless you are exempt. A job offer will be subject to providing evidence of this condition of employment.

Working hours

Our customer needs support 24/7 to meet his needs, so you’ll take your turn working on a rota.  We can offer lots of different hours and shift patterns which include working days, evenings, weekends, bank holidays, waking nights and sleep ins. As we’re asking you to be flexible, we’ll also give you the time back that you need to spend time doing the things that matter to you!

What’s on offer?

  • We’ll nurture your talent; help you understand how things work here and you’ll have a fantastic induction with ongoing learning and support!
  • 25 days annual leave (on top of bank holidays), rising a day a year up to 30 days. Fancy a little bit more? Then why not buy up to five days extra leave?
  • Access to over 800 high street discounts, interest free loans, discounted breakdown cover and payment plans to purchase the latest IT gadgets.
  • Generous pension scheme and Life Assurance
  • Enhanced maternity, adoption, parental leave and pay.

Plus lots more!  Find out more about our benefits and rewards package!
