Copywriter

Horsham District Council is looking for a creative Copywriter to join our small dynamic Communications team, composing content for use across a number of media channels to showcase the broad range of services, activities and events we provide. If you are a passionate copywriter with an eye for detail who enjoys creating engaging stories, this could be the job for you.

As Copywriter you will research and write magazine articles, media releases and statements about a broad range of topics and services for a variety of media outlets. You will draft content for the Council residents’ magazine as well as responding to media enquiries, organising PR photography, and preparing articles for other publications.

To succeed in this role, you will have experience working within a creative communications environment producing quality content. You will have impeccable spelling and grammar and a flair for PR photography. You will be able to develop professional relationships at all levels including with elected Members and colleagues alike, enjoy juggling conflicting priorities and be able to meet tight deadlines.

We welcome applications for a minimum of 20 hours per week, over 5 days (Monday – Friday). Please specify the number of hours you are applying for in your application.

For an informal discussion about this role please call Simon Godfrey, Digital Communications Manager on 01403 215182.

Horsham District Council encourages and supports their employees to have a healthy work life balance by supporting their professional development as well as offering 27 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays (pro-rata), a generous benefits package and an online platform offering discounts from online retailers. Staff are eligible to join a contributory pension scheme where the Council contributes 20% of pensionable salary. The Council also provides reimbursement for professional subscriptions and access to a car lease scheme. Most of our office-based roles have the potential for hybrid working, we are currently trialling a 50/50 home/office working model, subject to review.

If you would like to apply for the role, we highly recommend you show clearly within the ‘Experience Section’ of the application form how you meet the essential criteria detailed within the Role Profile when applying. If you do not make this clear, it is unlikely you will be shortlisted for interview.
