Start date: November 2022

We are currently looking for an excellent, experienced and enthusiastic School Counsellor to join our team at the Eko Pathways School, Flanders Road, East Ham, London E6 6FE. In September 2020 we grew in size and now seek to increase our welfare capacity to meet our pupils’ needs, especially in COVID-19 and post COVID-19 times. We are seeking someone to provide high quality counselling to students experiencing a wide range of emotional needs. You will be required to provide support, guidance and advice to students, parents, carers and the school. 

Eko Pathways is an all through special needs school supporting children and young people’s learning and social and emotional needs. We are committed to developing the emotional resilience and academic progress of our pupils in close partnership with the Local Authority.

The successful candidates will ideally have experience within a range of mainstream or SEMH settings.

More about the role :-

  • To support all students at Eko Pathways School through the provision of an independent and confidential counselling service. 
  • To facilitate and encourage a counselling experience which provides students with the opportunity to increase their self-awareness, develop their personal resources and understanding of their own problems as well as developing strategies to cope with change. 
  • To be committed to the safeguarding of children, liaising with the designated senior member of staff for Child Protection when necessary.
  •  To provide, or contribute to, oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual students and groups of students. 
  • To communicate effectively with the parents of students as appropriate. 
  • To communicate and co-operate with persons or bodies outside the school where appropriate. 
  • To follow agreed policies for communications in the school.
  • To liaise with staff in taking and making referrals to and from agencies for young people including health, education and welfare services, both statutory and voluntary. 
We are seeking a School Counsellor who has:
  • A recognised counselling/psychotherapy qualification ,be accredited or working towards accreditation by a recognised body such as The BACP, UKCP,ACP or BPC
  • An understanding of the developmental, emotional, social and educational issues of children and young people
  • An awareness of a range of needs from people from diverse ethnic, cultural and social backgrounds
  • Knowledge of local mental health and CAMHS Service
  • Knowledge of the Children’s Act and legislation pertaining to children.
