This is an exciting opportunity to join the Wokingham Prevention and Youth Justice Service (PYJS).
About us: We are a trauma informed service, who work compassionately and restoratively, with a child first ethos. We care about our staff and have an ongoing training schedule to support their development. We promote a healthy work/life balance and welcome a hybrid mode of working, although there will be an expectation for you to attend the office a minimum of three days per week. We are a small team, so we cover a variety of roles. Your caseload will include a mix of prevention, diversion and statutory work. You will also represent the service at Youth Court, provide Appropriate Adult services to children interviewed by the police at our local Police station; and conduct Return Home Interviews for Wokingham children who go missing in the Borough. In addition, you will be supported to take a lead role in developing particular areas of work such as Court, Interventions, Outreach, Education, Disproportionality and Participation.
About you: You must have experience working with children within the youth justice system. You are able to conduct quality assessments to identify and analyse the underlying causes for children’s behaviour or offending. You should have experience of co-producing intervention plans with children using creative, relationship-based interventions and the latest evidence-based practice. It is essential that you are able to assess and manage the three domains of risk: serious harm; re-offending; and safety and wellbeing. You would be familiar with the AssetPlus assessment tool and have experience of analytical and critical writing, including reports for varied audiences (Courts, Police, Referral Order Panels). You will be knowledgeable about the relevant youth justice legislation, National Standards for Children in Youth Justice and Youth Justice Board best practice guidance.
Our team is multi-disciplinary and we work closely with Early Help, Children’s Social Care, Police, Health Justice Teams and local schools, so you will be expected to work across agencies to achieve the best outcomes for our children.
Access to a car and a valid driving licence are essential requirements for this role.
