Job introduction

Do you have experience in supporting people to improve their health and wellbeing? Are you an excellent communicator? Do you have a good understanding of local inequalities and the impact these have on health and wellbeing?

We are looking for 3 community Health Trainers to join our Healthy Lifestyles Team, which is part of the Brighton & Hove’s Public Health Department.

We are looking for qualified and trainee Community Health Trainers. Full training will be given to the right candidates. As a Community Health Trainer you will support people in Brighton and Hove to live happier and healthier lives by making sustainable changes to their lifestyles.

You will:

  • work with people one to one and in groups, using evidence-based techniques to increase people’s confidence and motivation to change lifestyle related behaviours. For example stopping smoking, reducing alcohol, eating a healthy diet, increasing physical activity and in weight management
  • work closely with local communities, engaging with people who experience poor health, communicating health promotion messages and supporting people to access local services.
  • attend events and work with other organisations to deliver health promotion information, promote healthy lifestyle services and improve access to local services.

We aim to work with people who experience poor health outcomes due to social, economic and environmental inequalities. We particularly welcome applications from people with lived experience of health inequality.  

There is a total of a 100 hours available for these posts. We are happy to consider requests for job shares and part-time arrangements, ranging between 18.5 and 37 hours. 

About the role

This is a linked grade role, successful candidates appointed as trainees will start at scale 4b, progression to scale 5 is dependent on successful completion of the level 3 vocational training and assessment of the scale 5 competencies set out in the job description.

Successful candidates who already have a level 3 Community Health Trainer or an equivalent level 3 Community Health & Wellbeing Worker qualification, and who meet the competencies set out in the job description at interview, will be appointed at scale 5.

We operate flexible hybrid working arrangements. You will be based at our office in Bartholomew’s House in central Brighton but will also be able to work from home and in community locations around the city, depending on the needs of the service. Wednesdays are a core office day for the team, therefore you must be available to work on then. Other working days by agreement.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
